accommodation woes.

I finally got my accommodation offer a couple of days ago and after praying like crazy for Charles Morris Hall, I opened up the email to find that I had been offered a place in none other than… St. Mark’s Residences.  Say what?  I hadn’t even heard of that residence until I opened the offer email and obviously, I began to freak out.

I went to the university’s website and checked out what St. Mark’s has to offer.  Turns out it’s self-catered and it’s located on the north east corner of campus.  The residence is comprised of 11 blocks and each block has 9 to 11 flats, with 2-3 flats per floor and 5 rooms per flat.  There’s a kitchen you’ll have to share with your flatmates and get this, you have to share the bathroom with you flatmates.  That means sharing the bathroom between FIVE PEOPLE!  I was completely miffed when I found out about this accommodation.  They didn’t even bother to include any of my preferences: on-campus, catered and private en-suite.  Really, now.  I can barely cook to save my life and sharing bathrooms with that many people is a big no-no to me.  I don’t even want to think about that.  Blergh.

After doing a little more research on St. Mark’s, I realized that they probably put me in there because I’m only going on exchange for a semester.  The residence will be undergoing redevelopment in the spring and it’ll only be open for the first semester of the 2011/2012 school year.  So, I guess that’s the main reason why I was put in there…

I’m sure it’ll be fine once I get there and it’ll definitely take some time to get used to it.  In the end, it’ll probably be good for me because I’ll actually have to force myself to learn how to cook and hopefully not give myself food poisoning as a result.

Until next time!

PS. Exactly ONE MONTH till I leave.
